This January, we kicked off Theatre for Technical Business workshops for technical professionals at UC Irvine. The interactive workshops, which are held monthly, focus on improving presentation skills and business interactions through the use of theatre warm-ups and improv games. They resemble introductory theatre classes, starting with breathing and vocal warm-ups before moving into partner/group games.
There has been a strong positive response to the workshops. Spots in the workshops fill up within hours of scheduling them. Feedback from attendees mention how the “games and interpretation of the games were eye-opening” and how they “had fun and learned something.”
In this session, I will explain the purpose behind the workshops and general workshop logistics, walk through a sample workshop outline with explanations and demonstrations of each activity, and discuss potential avenues for the future of the workshops.
