This session is an opportunity for the UC IT system to gain insights into inclusivity within the context of intersectional approaches to racial and gender equity. Gender and racial equity for under-represented populations in IT relies on the structural integration of DEI methods that move beyond HR compliance and implicit bias training. Join this discussion with educator Dr. Breeze Harper, who focuses on how gendered-racism can operate even in the most ‘well-intended’ work spaces, moderated by Vanessa Kaskiris, a nationally-recognized advocate for women of color in IT. Dr. Harper is a published author and diversity & inclusion strategist living in the Bay Area. Her company, Critical Diversity Solutions, provides expert programming, recruitment strategies, and recommendations for structural and integrative changes to foster “belonging” and inclusion. With methods grounded in social theory, cultural geography, and empathetic storytelling, Dr. Harper shows how to get started and maintain your DEI goals. Vanessa Kaskiris is Director for Advancement Planning & Analysis with University Development and Alumni Relations and is Co-Chair of the UC Women in Technology Committee.
