Women at Work: Gender Equity in the UC Tech Workforce

Women represent roughly 25 percent of the tech workforce in institutions of higher education. This percentage is slightly higher than in the commercial tech sector but still well below parity with men. This panel will examine the numbers in greater depth, looking at trends over the last 5 to 7 years, differences in gender representation among job categories and classifications, and the career pathways by which tech employees enter the field in higher ed. Panelists will present data from the UC system, with comparisons to broader trends in higher ed and related sectors. Panelists will also discuss efforts underway to create greater gender balance in the workforce, including initiatives to improve recruiting, hiring, advancement and retention, and the effects of broader trends toward increased remote work.
